Exploring the Exploratorium

Posted on December 21st, 2012

We are working together with the Exploratorium on planning for the Museum relocation to Pier 15, which is scheduled to open in the spring of 2013. This new home for the Exploratorium will offer 330,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor space and triples exhibition space. The Exploratorium also has plans to expand onto Pier 17 – the total Pier 15/17 campus will cover nine acres of waterfront.

We are assisting the Exploratorium in assessing the layout and organization of individual visitor area program elements and the entry/exit experience from both an operator’s and visitor’s perspective. We are providing an independent operational assessment and analysis of the anticipated visitor flow based on the current design and helping to identify potential areas of concern, provide operational input and strategies in order to alleviate these concerns, and identify additional opportunities to enhance the visitor experience. Furthermore, we are continuing to work to help identify constraints within the new facility and develop operational strategies to overcome these limitations. This includes recommending staffing strategies, operational flow, and potential design modifications.
